The introduction of echocardiography has made a dramatic impact on patient management in the peri-operative, critical care, emergency medicine, surgery and internal medicine environments.
The University of Melbourne has developed a suite of postgraduate clinical ultrasound courses that are offered in distance mode to practicing medical professionals who wish to obtain further expertise in medical ultrasound for clinical practice.
The Diploma provides diagnostic level knowledge base in valve assessment, complex cardiovascular pathology, comprehensive reporting and has a greater focus on Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TOE).
The course is 1 semester full-time or 2 semesters part-time via distance education. A semester duration is 12 weeks. For students completing full-time there will be four subjects per semester, and for part-time, two subjects per semester. Subjects must be taken in sequence.
Students have the flexibility to study in their own time and location. Program materials can be accessed through the Education app on smartphones and tablets with iOS, Android or Windows systems. Once the program materials have been downloaded on smartphones and tablets, all the interactive media content can be viewed even when offline (however, internet access is required periodically to login or re-verify login credentials). Program materials can also be accessed online using a web browser.
